TOM PARKER, Assistant Director

On January 19, 1984, Tom got down on his knees in his one room apartment and surrendered his life to Jesus Christ.  Tom had spent the last 20 years of his life bound to drug addiction and criminal activity, which led to numerous incarcerations starting at age 14.  Tom had first heard the Gospel message from a man who had assisted David Wilkerson with a Boston Crusade that came every week to share the Gospel at a federally funded therapeutic community in Boston where Tom had spent the last 14 months.  After accepting Christ, Tom moved in with him and his family and for the next six months, they drove to nearly every Teen Challenge center on the East Coast and ministered to the staff and students there.  In August 1984, Tom began working at Teen Challenge New England.  A few months later, The Lord opened a door for Tom to go to Teen Challenge Institute (later known as YCIBI) in Sunbury, PA where he earned a 3 year Diploma in Bible and further discipleship.  After graduation, Tom returned to work at Teen Challenge New England and earned a BS Degree in Human Services from Springfield College in 1989, and an MA Degree in Counseling from Liberty University in 2002.  In 1995, Jesus blessed Tom with his beautiful wife and best friend, Shirley (who is now with The Lord).  For the past 33 years, Tom as served at Teen Challenge New England where he is currently the Assistant Director at the Brockton Center.    For Tom, and many others in Teen Challenge, Jesus miraculously stepped in when they were utterly lost and without any hope.  Jesus gave Tom a new heart and a new life, and that is something Tom will never, ever forget!  This is the message to everyone who comes to Teen Challenge.  If Jesus could do it for us, Jesus can do it for you!

THOMAS DRAINVILLE, Program Supervisor

Thomas Drainville was introduced to Teen Challenge through a successful graduate who reached out to him and in 2013 Tom found himself at the doors of Teen Challenge Brockton.  He had no idea what laid ahead for him but he committed his life to Christ in 2014 and has never been the same.  After graduating, Tom was hired on as the head of vehicle maintenance at the Brockton campus.  As he took care of all the general repair and upkeep for the fleet of vehicles, he also engaged in discipling the residents of Brockton. Because of his desire to work closer with the men, in 2017 he became the Night Supervisor. He continues to be more like Christ each and every day as he pours out of the Spirit of God that flows through him.  In his free time, Tom enjoys cutting the residents’ hair, which gives him an opportunity to minister to them through action and words of encouragement. He also enjoys spending as much time as possible with his 12 year old twins, who are a big part of his life.

DAVID FOWLER, Drug Awareness Coordinator

From a young age I always struggled with the need to fit in. I began playing music at a young age and quickly became engulfed in the party scene that went along with it. Drug use was an everyday thing that took over my life. Before I knew it, nobody wanted anything to do with me and I wasn’t welcome around my family. The feeling of hopelessness overwhelmed me. I tried countless rehabs and detox with no success. Finally I was on my way to a sober house when my Mother told me about Teen Challenge. I came to make her happy, but in turn, I found happiness through a relationship with Jesus Christ and freedom from addiction.

JOSE CRUZ, Admissions

I was born and raised in Puerto Rico and after spending all my teenage years searching for my identity in drugs, my life became a disgrace. At the age of 17, I  met Jesus and accepted him as my Lord and Savior.  But I still had the problem of not knowing how to live without using drugs. It was when I spent some time in jail that God opened the doors of Teen Challenge to me.  Teen Challenge began in me a process of learning to live without using drugs and helped me to be a good man for my family and society. While I have been at Teen Challenge I have accomplished one of my biggest goals, and became a Licensed Drug and Alcohol Counselor. Today I work as a supervisor and as an educator in the spiritual and academic area with the residents.

LYDELL PINA, Supervision

I was born and raised in New Bedford and have lived there most of my life.  As I got older, I started making wrong decisions which led me to drug use.  I struggled for years with my addiction. On October 27, 2014, I found Teen Challenge.  Here I was led to Christ Jesus and started to build a relationship with God.  I graduated on February 19,2016 and began a yearlong apprenticeship. After that, I was hired on as a staff member.  Christ has given me a new start and a new beginning in life.  I’m grateful and highly blessed with this opportunity.  Today, I can do all things through Christ Jesus who strengthens me.
